We love our Woody Plant Evaluation Garden, but when spring bulb season arrives, the Hydrangeas and Butterfly Bushes can be a bit lacking. So this year we're testing out a large collection of Species Tulips. In contrast to the common hybrids with their gigantic flowers and short life spans (we use most hybrid tulips as annual crops) the species tulips tend to be smaller and not quite as bold in bloom, but they are much better over the long haul - most come back year after year.
