Frequently Asked Questions
Is Yew Dell accessible?
The core of the Yew Dell property has paved paths, making it wheelchair accessible. Restrooms and event facilities are also wheelchair accessible. We also have a wheelchair accessible picnic area. Wheelchairs are available on a first come first served basis.
Are you ever open in the evening?
We offer extended evening hours during special events. See our Classes and Events page for a detailed listing of programs.
Is there a place to eat?
In July 2022, we opened Martha Lee’s Kitchen located in our Peyton Samuel Head Trust Pavilion. Drinks are also available for purchase in the Garden Gift Shop.
You are welcome to bring a picnic to the garden. There are a number of nearby restaurants and some will make picnic/box lunches to bring to the garden; Red Pepper Deli, Gustavo’s Mexican Grill, Juicy’s BBQ, Frascelli’s Italian Deli… and many others.
Do you have plants for sale?
We have ongoing online plant sales on our Online Plant Market. You can shop our ever-changing selection by clicking here. From Spring to Fall there is also a seasonal selection of plants available for purchase at the Garden Gift Shop.
Our Annual Spring Plant Sale is held in person the last weekend in April and advanced ticketing is required. Visit our classes and events page for more information or to reserve your tickets.
Do you have something that kids will enjoy?
Yes! We have a number of self-guided children’s activities available daily at the Visitor’s Center as well as specific programs and events for children. See our Children’s Activities page for more information.
Do you offer guided tours?
We offer guided tours for groups of 10 or larger. For more information, see the Tours page.
Are pets allowed at Yew Dell?
Bring your dogs for a stroll in the gardens! We allow leashed, well-behaved dogs on most Sundays during our open season for Hounds on the Grounds.* For the safety and enjoyment of all guests, dogs must be held on a leash at all times and cleaned up after. We allow service animals as defined by the ADA to accompany visitors at any time. No pets may be left in any vehicle in Yew Dell’s parking lot. Please treat all wildlife and our garden cats with respect.

Can I bring a camera?
In general, visitors may take nonprofessional photos for personal use. Photographers at any level who plan on bringing in tripods, reflectors, lighting, props or staging materials and any photographer who financially profits from their photo sessions of the gardens must schedule a session, complete the required paperwork and submit payment. Is smoking allowed at Yew Dell?
No – we are a smoke-free facility. Smoking and Vaping are not permitted anywhere on Yew Dell’s Grounds.
How long does it take to see everything?

What does my membership include?
All levels of membership include free regular admission, a subscription to our quarterly newsletter, a discount to our Garden Gift Shop and other local retailers, and discounts on classes. Does Yew Dell take BETA Club and National Honors Society hours?
Yes! Yew Dell is a fantastic place to complete community service hours for school. We strongly encourage youth volunteers to get involved!
Do I need experience to volunteer?
No! We take volunteers of all different skill levels and you will certainly learn while working in the gardens. Visit our Volunteer page to learn more.
How old must you be in order to volunteer?
Whether you are seeking service opportunities with your family, your church group, your youth organization, your school or simply on your own, we are excited to work with you to match you with appropriate activities that provide a fun and meaningful experience for you.
- Volunteers who are ages 7-13 must have direct parent/guardian supervision.
- Volunteers ages 14-17 may volunteer independently with a signed waiver.
