Welcome to Yew Dell Botanical Gardens 2020 Virtual Cultural Pass Activities

Welcome to Yew Dell Botanical Gardens’ 2020 Cultural Pass Experience. We wish that we could welcome you and your family into the gardens this summer. But we hope that you will find educational connections to the natural world and  gardening through these activities, geared towards ages 2- 10. These videos will lead you through fun activities can be done in your own backyard or other outdoor space.

Activity 1: Let's explore pollinators in the backyard!

Activity 1: Searching for Pollinators (Appropriate for ages 2 – 10 years old. Disciplines include: Landmarks and Park, Forest, Garden, Arboretum)

Take the whole family outside and explore pollinators in their natural habit. See what you can observe and learn about them.

Activity 2: Bee Watering Stations

Activity 2: Bee Watering Stations for your Backyard (Appropriate for ages 2 – 10 years old. Disciplines include: Landmarks and Park, Forest, Garden, Arboretum)

Meet one of Yew Dell’s horticultural apprentices, Cassadie, and her little sister, Caleah. They will explain the importance of providing a watering station to our pollinating friends, the bees.  

Activity 3: Plants with Animal Names

Activity 3: Pollinator Meadow & Paper Flower Craft (Appropriate for ages 2 – 10 years old. Disciplines include: Landmarks and Park, Forest, Garden, Arboretum)

Join Yew Dell Botanical Gardens’ Event and Programs Manager, Susan, as she shares details on why we need to protect our pollinator friends, and we make a flower craft from tissue paper.

Activity 4: Pollinator Meadow & Paper Flower Craft

Join Yew Dell Botanical Gardens’ Event and Programs Manager, Susan, as she explores Yew Dell’s gardens in search of plants with animal names.

Activity 5: Herbs from the Yew Dell Kitchen Garden

Activity 5: Herbs from the Yew Dell Kitchen Garden (Appropriate for ages 2 – 10 years old. Disciplines include: Landmarks and Park, Forest, Garden, Arboretum)

Megan, one of our Horticulture Apprentice, instructs us on the way to dry herbs for food and sachets that she collected from Yew Dell Botanical Garden’s Kitchen Garden..
