Yew Dell offers a varied slate of classes and events from garden lectures to hands-on workshops, plant walks, festivals and programs for families and kids, casual gardeners, homeowners and avid plant lovers. Volunteer Celebration

Volunteers are vital to our mission here at Yew Dell. We cannot say “thank you” enough to those who have donated their time and efforts to keep our gardens growing. We cordially invite you to attend our annual Volunteer Celebration, where we get together to recognize our volunteer’s tremendous contributions to our program. The celebration is also a perfect time to learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities and get to know other volunteers. Come out to enjoy light refreshments and the presentation of Yew Dell’s Annual Volunteer Awards! We look forward to seeing you.


The Gardens of Southern

France - a Dinner Travelogue with Paul Cappiello

Enjoy an evening with friends filled with traditional French cuisine and paired wines while Yew Dell's executive director- Paul Cappiello shares his experiences traveling through the spectacular gardens of southern France. Join us for Paul's travelogue and dinner catered by Red Hog, Blue Dog's new Artisan Butcher Shop & Restaurant and get inspired for your own garden and travels this year. Bon Apetit!


Hellebore Day/ Garden Gift Shop Opens for Spring

If there was ever a near-perfect perennial for Kentucky, the hellebore is it! Evergreen foliage, winter and spring flowering, good looking foliage all summer… what’s not to love!? And Yew Dell just happens to have one of the best collections in the land. Come learn about culture, biology, new varieties and more. And we’ll have plenty of plants to buy as well so you can start (or augment) your own collection. Come early … plants sell out quickly.

This is your big chance to get your hands on some of the best, newest and time-tested plants available. Whether you are looking for trees or shrubs, perennials or vines, native or exotic, we’ve got ‘em in spades. We’ll have special items in our shop, select vendors, a variety of gardening groups represented, children’s activities, food and more. Remember, members get in an hour early on Saturday – and of course you can buy a membership at the door!


Hypertufa Workshop

Here’s the perfect opportunity to create a horticultural masterpiece for your own garden. Yew Dell’s Director of Marketing & Events and no-holds-barred gardener Jackie Gulbe will guide you through the process of crafting your own hypertufa trough. Hypertufa containers are the perfect container for low maintenance plants like succulents and cacti and they are cool looking! After you are finished crafting your container, you can shop the Plant Sale for the perfect plants to reside in your new hypertufa creation!

Children in the Dell

Join our usual merry band of kiddos in the Children in the Dell World Headquarters (aka the log cabin) rain or shine! This popular Saturday-morning program is the perfect opportunity to give children a chance to spend some time with all that is green. Our energetic and creative educators will engage the children in everything from planting and growing veggies to nature-inspired scavenger hunts and a whole lot more. Whatever happens to be in season will be the topic du jour. Intended for children from 5-12 years old. Parents must stay on the grounds and are invited to participate in the day’s activities. Preregistration encouraged – drop-ins welcome as space allows.


Louisville Visual Arts Summer Camp

Monday, June 12 through Friday June 16; 9am-12pm

Yew Dell is partnering with Louisville Visual Arts to bring a nature art summer camp to our grounds! Kids ages 7-12 will explore the wonders of our botanical gardens through a creative lens. Imagine creating art in a castle or along our woodland trails! Artists will tap into their creative genius with guided curriculum and help from the great outdoors. The natural world offers the opportunity for children to draw, design, paint, sculpt and create their way toward beautiful works of art. Stay tuned for more details regarding registration.
