For Kids and Families
Yew Dell has a wide variety of activities for kids of all ages, from formal classes to casual walks and interactive activities.
Backpacktivities - can be checked out in the visitor center for use on the grounds anytime you visit. Filled with sketch pads, colored pencils, scavenger hunts and more, they are the perfect way to have fun with the kids and explore the grounds. Thanks to several generous donors, Backpacktivity packs are available at no charge!
Book-N-Blanket Bags - are also available in the visitor center for check out and use on the
grounds anytime you visit. Canvas tote bags filled with a Yew Dell blanket and garden/nature-themed children's books make for a relaxed visit to the garden. Find a shady spot or a comfy bench and share a book with the kids. Thanks to several generous donors, Book-N-Blanket Bags are available at no charge!
Children in the Dell Classes - are offered every Saturday morning (10:30am-noon) starting the weekend after Derby and continuing through September. These instructor-led classes take advantage of the season in the garden; nature walks along Yew Dell's hiking trails, planting/picking vegetables in the veggie gardens, garden crafts and more. Parents are asked to stay on the grounds during the classes and may participate if they want. Space is limited so advance registration is suggested. Walk-ins accepted as space allows. And . . .you guessed it . . . thanks to several generous donors, Children in the Dell classes are available at no charge!

Check Out the Gardens - Whether you are looking for a beautiful place to sit and read a book or want to pick out the perfect tree for your own yard, Yew Dell's gardens offer something for everyone. Garden Photo Gallery
Cruise the Arboretum - With acres of unusual trees and shrubs, this is a place to get off the beaten path. Enjoy excellent collections of magnolias, dogwoods, beeches and more. The perfect place to see mature specimens in all their glory.
Visit the Greenhouse and Nurseries - This is where you can see how we do what we do, check out out new plant development and evaluation work - you might even see some plants that aren't even on the market yet.

Gardens not necessarily your thing or just looking for something a little different? We have more than a mile of hiking trails, three ponds and more wildlife than you can shake a stick at (not that you would!) Ask for a trail map at the visitor center.
*Hiking Trails: While our hiking trails are open, there are a few spots closed for pond maintenance. Check the shop in the visitor center for details.
